Cancer Council WA was proud to be part of the sod-turning event held at the Swanbourne site for the beginning of construction on Boodja Mia – or Sandcastles – WA’s first children’s hospice.
Cancer Council WA CEO, Ashley Reid, said commencement of construction on Boodja Mia/Sandcastles was made possible thanks to the generous bequest from the late John Street and his sister Joan.
“Cancer Council WA’s contribution is thanks to the incredible generosity of John, and his sister Joan, who included a gift in his Will to Cancer Council WA for the specific purpose of investing in palliative care hospice facilities. This major donation, combined with the generosity of other Western Australians, has allowed construction to begin on the Boodja Mia/Sandcastles Hospice in Allen Park, Swanbourne,” Mr Reid said.
“Mr Street’s substantial gift of $10 million demonstrates the impact of leaving a legacy.
“We are proud to be part of this project and look forward to the facility being completed in late 2025.”
Mr Reid attended the sod-turning event together with WA Premier Hon. Roger Cook, WA Minister for Health Hon. Amber-Jade Sanderson, Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation (PCHF) Chairman, Hon. Ian Campbell and PCHF CEO, Carrick Robinson.
