Construction will soon begin on a new purpose-built NSW State Emergency Service (SES) Unit headquarters at Moss Vale after the first sod was turned on the site today.

The new facility, which is jointly funded by the NSW Government and Wingeecarribee Shire Council, will provide the Unit with increased storage capacity and additional parking, and will be fitted with high-quality operational amenities, including communications equipment.

Once complete the building will also accommodate rescue vehicles and specialist equipment, as well as provide training space for volunteers.

A tender for the works was awarded to Puch Building & Constructions Pty Ltd, and the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

In 2022, the Moss Vale Unit responded to 645 storm and flood related requests for assistance, during what was the busiest year on record for the NSW SES. The volunteers also responded to 160 rescue-related incidents, including 48 road crash rescues and 74 land-based rescues.

The new NSW SES headquarters will share the site on Bowman Road, Moss Vale, with a new Wingecarribee Shire Animal Shelter.
