Continued energy supply for Esperance homes and businesses

  • WA Government steps in to maintain energy supply for 379 Esperance homes, businesses and critical services
  • Private gas network owner and operator had announced it would cease operations
  • Horizon Power secures 12-month extension of gas supply until March 2023 and will have a transition program for customers
  • In welcome news for the Esperance community, the State Government has successfully secured continued reticulated gas supply for local customers beyond March 31, 2022.

This follows the Esperance Gas Distribution Company’s decision in September 2021 to cease supplying reticulated gas to its customers – including 338 homes and 41 businesses.

To ensure energy supply for the community, Horizon Power has negotiated an extension agreement with the Esperance Gas Distribution Company.

The agreement, executed today, secures an additional 12 months of reticulated gas supply under the same pricing terms and conditions.

Horizon Power and Energy Policy WA are continuing to develop a long-term energy solution for the community.

Community consultation is now underway and gas customers are encouraged to register information about their individual circumstances at https://www.horizonpower.com.au/esperancegas

Energy Minister Bill Johnston will host a community forum at the Esperance Civic Centre this evening to share information and hear from impacted residents.

As stated by Energy Minister Bill Johnston:

“I’m pleased to announce the State Government has secured the continued supply of reticulated gas to almost 400 Esperance customers.

“The execution of this agreement is the result of many months of hard work, through which we have always maintained the interests of the Esperance community.

“We simply could not have a situation where customers were left without access to gas with no alternative energy supply arrangement or transition plan.

“I look forward to hearing directly from residents this evening.”
