Continuing to deliver lower power prices for Tasmanians

Guy Barnett,Minister for Energy

Tasmania continues to have some of the lowest regulated power prices in the nation according to the Tasmanian Economic Regulator’s Comparison of Electricity and Gas Prices Available to Small Customers in Australia – September 2020 report released today.

The report confirms electricity prices in Tasmania are either the lowest or second lowest in the nation for residential regulated tariffs, with mid-sized businesses having the lowest electricity prices in Australia.

This is welcome news for Tasmanians and confirms we are well on track to deliver our commitment to have the lowest regulated electricity prices in Australia by 2022.

We have already delivered a power price decrease from 1 July 2020 and took strong action to support Tasmanians with their energy costs through the COVID-19 pandemic, with our $45 million electricity concession scheme regarded as one of the most generous in the nation.

Aurora Energy has also invested $5 million to assist customers with bill relief through waiving fees or charges and a range of other support measures. I urge anyone who is struggling with their bills to contact Aurora through its customer service centre on 1300 13 2003 Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, so your situation can be assessed.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government knows that cost of living is important for Tasmanians and we will continue to put downward pressure on electricity prices, and today’s report delivered by the Economic Regulator confirms our plan is working.
