Contract awarded for Dobney Ave and Pearson St upgrade

Council has taken a major step forward in the $5.6 million rehabilitation of Dobney Avenue and Pearson Street this week, awarding the works contract to Fulton Hogan Industries.

Councillors made the decision in an Extraordinary Meeting of Wagga Wagga City Council on Monday night (21 February 2022).

Council’s Director Infrastructure Services Warren Faulkner said he was looking forward to scheduling work on the important project.

“We know Pearson Street and Dobney Avenue are two of the busiest roads in our city, with a lot of commercial and industrial vehicles using them and impacting their surface,” Mr Faulkner said.

“We really appreciate the community’s patience as we’ve planned and designed the works, secured funding, and completed the preliminary kerb and guttering works.

“Now that we’ve determined a preferred contractor, we’ll be moving as quickly as we can to get the major works started.

“Our next step is to finalise the contract with Fulton Hogan which will determine the start time for the works. We will then directly contact adjoining businesses so they’re aware of the project start date and timeline, and then we’ll advise the community of more specific details.”

The indicative works program provided by Fulton Hogan as part of its tender submission indicates that the works are expected to be ongoing for approximately two months.

The rehabilitation works will cover the stretch of Pearson Street and Dobney Avenue from the Sturt Highway up to and including the two roundabouts adjacent to Bunnings.

The current surface will be reshaped and renewed, improving safety and ride quality for road users, as well as improving environmental factors such as noise reduction and the flow of surface water.

The works will be undertaken as night works to minimise inconvenience to the adjoining businesses as well as motorists.

The $5.6 million project is being 75 per cent funded by the NSW Government through its Fixing Local Roads program, with Wagga Wagga City Council providing the balance.
