A new regional playground at Mordialloc’s much-loved Peter Scullin Reserve is another step closer, with contractor Yellowstone Landscaping Pty Ltd appointed by Council to undertake the project.

Peter Scullin Playground is one of three regional scale playgrounds in Kingston and is much loved by our community and visitors alike. The playground has been designed to offer an inclusive play experience for all, providing opportunities for a diverse range of children, youth and adults of all ages and abilities.

Kingston Mayor Hadi Saab said the work at Peter Scullin is among a string of sport and recreation renewals and upgrades completed, underway or planned across our city.

“We know that investing in our facilities brings great health and social benefits and we are excited about the amazing new play space that will be created at Peter Scullin,” Cr Saab said.

“We received really positive feedback during our community consultation on the project last summer. We heard what our community wanted and this is reflected in the final plans. People particularly liked the beach theme and the fact the playground will offer something for everyone!

“With planning and approvals now completed and funding secured we are looking forward to moving forward with this exciting project.”

The key elements of the playground upgrade include:

  • All Ability – accessible equipment
  • Climbing with ropes
  • Multi-level play areas
  • Interactive play
  • Tunnel
  • Sensory play, including musical instruments
  • Swings
  • Slides
  • Water play

Construction will commence after the busy summer holiday period and the Mordialloc Food and Wine Festival in March 2023.

The $1.8 million Peter Scullin Reserve Playspace renewal is being developed by Kingston City Council in partnership with the Victorian Government, who have contributed $300,000 under the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
