- New public primary schools are being planned for East Wellard and Wungong
- Wellard East Primary School (planning name) and Wungong (Precinct F) Primary School (planning name) expected to open for students in 2026
- Cook Government boosting education opportunities for families in growing suburbs
The Cook Government has today announced planning has commenced for two new public primary schools in Perth’s south and south-east, which are expected to open for the start of the 2026 school year.
Wellard East Primary School (planning name) and Wungong (Precinct F) Primary School (planning name) will provide state-of-the-art education options for families, in the growing suburbs in the City of Kwinana and City of Armadale.
Wellard East Primary School (planning name) will provide enrolment relief for nearby Wellard Primary School by accommodating for 540 students.
Facilities at the school will include an administration space, early childhood teaching area, general learning areas, along with specialist rooms for art and science. There will also be a library, covered assembly area, music room, as well as an oval and hard courts. Land will also be set aside for a possible future Educare facility.
Wungong (Precinct F) Primary School (planning name) will cater to families in the growing suburb of Hilbert, and be the first school to open in the Wungong Urban Master Plan.
It will also have capacity for 540 students, and include an administration space, early childhood teaching area, general learning areas, specialist rooms for art and science, a library, covered assembly area, music room, dental therapy, as well as an oval and hard courts.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
“This is an exciting announcement for local families and future residents of these popular areas.
“These two new public primary schools will have state-of-the-art facilities, giving local students access to the best possible learning environments where they can thrive.
“My Government is committed to building quality facilities to ensure WA’s education system keeps up with the populations of our fastest-growing suburbs.
“We have already committed $1.5 billion to building better public schools across the State, and intend to continue this strong investment.
“We are committed to ensuring every child can learn in the best possible school facilities.”

“Schools are a focal point for so many of our communities, and these new primary schools will enrich the suburbs of Hilbert and Wellard.
“I am sure that families with young children in Wellard will be very happy to have more schooling options ready for the 2026 school year.
“For families in Hilbert, what an exciting time this will be to send their children to the first school in the Wungong Urban Master Plan.”
