Cook Labor Government Delivers New Mullewa Hospital

  • Construction of the new $25.1 million Mullewa Community Hospital is complete
  • Modern facility to provide 24/7 emergency care, outpatient services, a dedicated dialysis space and a flexible inpatient bed
  • Commissioning underway ahead of services moving to the new hospital in coming months
  • Part of Cook Labor Government’s record $5.5 billion health infrastructure investment

The Cook Labor Government has delivered the new Mullewa Community Hospital, with construction of the hospital building now complete.

Part of the government’s record $5.5 billion health infrastructure investment, the purpose-built hospital will give Mullewa and surrounding communities access to modern facilities that support care closer to home.

The new building has reached practical completion just over 12 months after main works began, with WA Country Health Service now developing operational commissioning plans to transition services to the facility in the coming months.

The $25.1 million hospital will include a new 24/7 emergency department with one acute bay and one resuscitation bay, alongside a flexible inpatient bed for patients requiring respite, palliation or an overnight admission.

Equipped with the latest virtual care technology, the facility will also feature:

  • more consulting spaces for primary care, outpatient and population health services;
  • a community home supported dialysis chair in a dedicated fit-for-purpose space; and
  • a new ambulance bay, administration areas, laundry and kitchen.

Remaining project works, including demolition of the old hospital, are expected to be completed in early 2027.

The Mullewa Community Hospital build forms part of the Cook Labor Government’s investment in modernising hospitals and health services across Western Australia.

As stated by Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey:

“In a little over a year, we’ve reached practical completion on this important hospital project, which will shortly open its doors to the people of Mullewa and surrounding communities.

“This is a significant milestone for the community and another example of our record $5.5 billion health infrastructure investment taking shape across Western Australia.

“Following the recent opening of the emergency department and community health at the $192 million Geraldton Health Campus, residents in the Mid West are seeing the completion of a second healthcare project in the region.

“We have also recently completed a new hospital in Laverton and expansions at Fremantle and Joondalup.”

As stated by Health Minister Meredith Hammat:

“This new hospital has been designed around the needs of the Mullewa community and wider Mid West, bringing a range of health services together in a modern, purpose-built facility.

“From round-the-clock emergency care to outpatient treatment, respite and palliation, it will support local people at different stages of their lives and when they need care most.

“The dedicated dialysis space will support more Mid West residents to access lifesaving treatment in their own community, helping reduce the need to travel away from home.”

As stated by Sandra Carr MLC:

“This new hospital is an important investment in the health of Mullewa and surrounding communities, giving local people access to modern facilities and care closer to home.

“For people in our region, receiving care close to family, support networks and on Country can make an enormous difference, and that’s what this new hospital will help deliver.”
