A man has been charged with multiple offences after police allegedly located more than 30 kilograms of suspected stolen copper wiring and dangerous drugs during a vehicle search in the Somerset region on 15 July.
Around 11.30am, officers from Lowood Police Station attended a rest area at Fernvale in relation to reports of unlawful campers.
Police located a grey Toyota Kluger at the scene and during initial enquiries allegedly discovered a large quantity of stripped and unstripped copper wiring inside the vehicle.
The vehicle was subsequently seized for further examination and transported to a secure location.
On 16 July detectives from the Ipswich District Property Crime Team executed a search warrant on the vehicle where they allegedly located 31 kilograms of stripped copper wiring and five kilograms of unstripped electrical cable.
It is further alleged officers also located a number of suspected stolen power tools, batteries and a battery charger as well as an amount of methylamphetamine and drug utensils.
A 37-year-old Brightview man has been charged with one count each of possession of suspected stolen property, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing drug utensils.
He has been remanded in custody to appear before Ipswich Magistrates Court on 6 August.
Investigations into the ownership of the recovered copper and associated property remain ongoing.
