Copper theft charges, Park Avenue

Two men have been charged following an alleged break and enter and attempted copper theft at a Park Avenue energy facility in Rockhampton on Sunday, June 5.

It will be alleged the men unlawfully entered the facility’s storage yard at approximately 2am before attempting to steal lengths of copper wire.

An extensive CCTV network at the facility captured the alleged incident and police were immediately notified.

Rockhampton police and dog squad officers attended and searched the facility.

A 19-year-old Depot Hill man and 24-year-old Allenstown man were located allegedly hiding and were bitten by PD Sacco during the course of their arrests.

Both men were treated at Rockhampton Base Hospital for minor injuries.

The 24-year-old man has been charged with enter premise and commit indictable offence and possessing dangerous drugs.

His matter is expected to next be before Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 4.

The 19-year-old man has been charged with enter premise and commit indictable offence.

He is expected to appear before Rockhampton Magistrates Court on June 29.

Investigations are ongoing.
