Two men have been arrested after allegedly stealing copper cabling at Oaklands Park.
Police were called to a bus interchange on Diagonal Road about 3am on Thursday 10 September after reports that two men had been seen climbing into a telecommunications pit and disappearing underground. A witness then allegedly saw the men emerge carrying spools of copper wiring wrapped around their arms.
Patrols quickly attended and spotted one of the suspects riding away from the area on a pushbike. The man attempted to flee but was arrested after a short foot pursuit.
Following a search of the area, the second suspect was located and arrested on Pemberton Street.
A 35-year-old Seaford Rise man was charged with theft and carrying a graffiti implement. He was bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 28 September.
A 36-year-old man of no fixed place of abode was charged with theft, unlawful possession and hindering police. He was refused police bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today.
