Coronavirus stimulus grants deadlines near

Time is running out to apply for three of Corangamite Shire’s small business grants.

Applications for the Diversification, Forced Business Closure and Digital grants programs will close at 5pm Friday 19 June.

Council Manager Growth and Engagement Rory Neeson encouraged business operators to act quickly.

“These grant programs have been really well received, with a lot of applications submitted already,” Mr Neeson said.

“This program has been focussed on getting money moving into the local economy quickly to speed up the Shire’s financial recovery during the COVID-19 restrictions.

“A lot of our small businesses have been impacted by the economic downturn and Council has set aside $180,000 as part of our $2.5 million stimulus package.”

Mr Neeson encouraged business operators to read the relevant guidelines and speak to Council before applying, to make sure they were eligible.

“Call our Economic Development Team on 5593 7100 and they will help you understand the guidelines and what requirements your application will need to meet.”

Another stimulus initiative, the Traditional Advertising Grant Program, will open in July, and the regular Retail Area Façade Improvement Program and Innovation and Entrepreneur Program will be conducted later in the year.

The Events and Festivals Grants Program is on hold until more is known about future restrictions on mass gatherings.

Mr Neeson said operators should refer to the relevant guidelines for each grant program and consider which best suit their needs. Businesses affected by COVID-19 can apply for up to two of the following:

  • Diversification Grant Program: $1:$2 up to $5000.
  • Digital Grant Program: $1:$2 up to $2000.
  • Forced Business Closure Grant Program: One-off payment of $1000.
  • Traditional Advertising Grant Program: $1:$2 up to $2000. (Opens in July.)
