The Tasmanian Government is delivering cost-of-living relief through a range of initiatives, including through the No Interest Loans Scheme Tasmania (NILS).
Funding from the Government enabled the Partnership Investment Plan (the Plan) to help NILS operate at a higher capacity, ramping up over a three-year period to deliver more loans each year.
Parliamentary Secretary for Community and Multicultural Affairs, Marcus Vermey, said NILS is making a real difference in helping Tasmanians.
“From February to May this year, our Government through NILS, provided a record level of loans, assisting 1,796 applicants, which is 42 per cent more than would have been achieved without the Plan,” Mr Vermey said.
“The loans were also issued 30 per cent quicker than two years ago.
“While the numbers are important, the biggest benefit is the significant impact that has been made on Tasmanian’s lives.”
During the first 23 months of the Partnership Investment Plan over 8,900 loans have been issued worth totalling $16.9 million, enabling 11,000 different purchases through more than 1,000 local suppliers across Tasmania.
This equates to a saving for Tasmanians of over $20.6 million in interest and charges. Every dollar of Tasmanian Government funding to NILS creates $6.20 in spending in local businesses.
The Plan has enabled NILS to increase advertising, develop partnerships and introduce an outreach program in Triabunna.
The Government is delivering for Tasmanians with additional funding also supporting NILS to reach more people in our communities.
