Council acts to protect ponies from dog attacks

Chelsea Pony Club horses will be able to rest easy thanks to new fencing provided by Kingston Council following recent dog attacks.

Kingston Council has answered a call for help from the Chelsea Pony Club for urgent funding to help build new and improved fencing at their site.

Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley said Council was happy to contribute $30,000, along with the club’s contribution of $5000, to fund new fencing to help keep the beloved ponies safe.

“In recent months two ponies were injured by dog attacks at the club’s paddocks,” Cr Oxley. “Council has stepped in to partner with the Chelsea Pony Club to make the site secure.”

The volunteer-run Chelsea Pony Club leases land, owned by Kingston Council and Melbourne Water, next to the Longbeach trail.
