Council adopts policy in support of community engagement

Brimbank Council has adopted a new policy that will guide future community engagement practices and principles to achieve genuine, meaningful and transparent engagement with the community.

The Community Engagement Policy establishes an engagement framework with a set of principles that will guide best practice engagement to enable meaningful and inclusive opportunities for community involvement in decision making processes.

Brimbank Mayor Cr Ranka Rasic said the policy reinforces Council’s commitment to fostering meaningful engagement and more public participation.

“The policy demonstrates our commitment to capturing the many different views, experiences and knowledge of our diverse community.

“We want to ensure community members have the opportunity to engage with Brimbank Council on local priorities and shape the future of their community.

“Council is pleased to have a policy that provides for accessible, transparent and fair engagement practices and encourages public involvement in Council’s decision making processes.

“Our goal is to ensure a fair and equitable voice for our community, and that people are engaged to have their say on matters important to them.

“Through this policy we’ve developed engagement initiatives that make it easy to share thoughts and ideas and continue making Brimbank a great place to live.

“Thank you all who took the time to review the draft policy and provide feedback – your input has helped shape the final policy,” said Cr Rasic.

Council’s commitment to community engagement is underpinned by six core principles that guide the way it plans and delivers engagement opportunities and activities, that include:

  • Responsiveness
  • Transparency and integrity
  • Fairness
  • Accountability
  • Respect
  • Human Rights.
