Council awards $600,000 in grants to strengthen and celebrate community

More than 150 local community groups will share in $600,000 worth of Community Grants for projects that support Brimbank’s youth, seniors, the arts, sports, festivals and more.

Mayor of Brimbank, Cr Lucinda Congreve said Council was delighted to give local community groups the best possible chance of success.

“Our Community Grants Program provides one-off financial assistance to support not-for-profit community groups and organisations through activities, programs and events that help strengthen and benefit the broader Brimbank community.

“This year we received 193 applications and have been able to support 153 grant recipients with a total pool of $600,000 in community grants for programs, activities and events.

“These are important organisations working with our young people, diverse cultural groups, residents, seniors and all members of our community to support, inspire and build community pride.

This year priority was given to grants that reflect the strategic objectives of the Brimbank Community Vision 2040 including a focus on:

People: Healthy Lifestyles, Services and Facilities, Culture and Diversity, and Safety

Place: Getting Around, Public Spaces, and Environment

Prosperity: Education and Employment, Local Economy, and Housing

“These grants will help achieve our shared vision for making Brimbank a place we can all be proud to live in 20 years from now.

“The grants process gives everyone an equal chance to participate in the program – and every year the standard of applications is getting stronger.

“Council is determined to ensure that community groups get all the tools and support they need to make a great application.

“This year, we’re pleased the total funding allocated to community festivals and events increased by more than 27 per cent – that’s more festivals and events to enjoy in Brimbank.

“It’s our way of supporting community groups and organisations that contribute to making Brimbank better.

“I look forward to seeing the successes that come from these grants over the next year, Cr Congreve said.
