Murrindindi Shire Council has funded 15 local community group, organisation and business projects and activities, together worth a total of $95,737.
Mayor Sandice McAulay said she was thrilled with the outcome of the current round of Council’s ‘Grants and Contributions Program’.
“We are here to help our community and businesses achieve greater prosperity and provide opportunities for people from all walks of life to succeed and thrive. Council’s Grants and Contributions Program brings together six different streams of financial and in-kind support available to not-for-profit community groups, businesses and event organisers within Murrindindi Shire,” Cr McAulay said.
“Those groups who were awarded grants or received contributions from Council help make our community a stronger and better place to be. We thank them for the drive and initiative in applying and congratulate them on their successful applications. We look forward to seeing the results of their endeavours.
Council awarded the following business and industry development grants:
Bonfire Station in Taggerty received $20,000 in funding to develop a microbrewery and to increase its current production capacity.
Kinglake Distillery received a grant of $19,950 to assist with the development of a site to demonstrate coopering, the ancient art of barrel and vat-making.
The Marysville Jazz and Blues Weekend Committee received $10,000 in funding to support its renown three-day annual event.
In addition, Council resolved to adopt a recommendation from the Community Grants Assessment Panel to support the following applications:
Strath Creek Hall and Reserves Committee received $2,986 to support the ‘Funny Little World’ with Alyce Platt event. This event which will run in partnership with Yea Arts Inc in November and will include musical entertainment and a three course meal at a subsidised cost to the community of Strath Creek and surrounds.
The Australian Golf Course Superintendents Association received $2,140 to support a research project using drone analysis to determine plant health and reduce golf course turf grass water consumption. The project aims to include the Marysville Golf Course as part of the study and the analysis could return information that would reduce water and green maintenance costs for the club.
Terip Terip Recreation Reserve Inc. has received $2750 toward the purchase a new ride-on mower.
Kinglake West Primary School was granted $1,771 to support the purchase and installation of three new flag poles, enabling them to fly the Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags in recognition of the growing number of their Indigenous students and families.
The Yea Agricultural, Pastoral and Horticultural Association received $2260 to assist with extension of the Yea Show to include a night carnival. The night carnival will feature a Stockman Show performance, with local youths participating.
“Council was also pleased to see officers had granted fee waivers to Axiom Architects Pty Ltd (on behalf of Scouts Victoria), the Alexandra Community Christmas Tree Festival, the Yea Saleyards Committee of Management, Mittagundi Outdoor Education Centre, Yea Community House’s YAPPERS Group, Flowerdale Sports Club Inc and Big Hill Events,” Cr McAulay said.
