Council boosts support to vulnerable

Brimbank City Council will boost its community care services to support more vulnerable people who are required to self-isolate during the COVID-19 emergency.

Our community care services will increase its meals delivery through meals-on-wheels to vulnerable people in the community. This will target older people, people with a disability and others that have restricted access to the community during the pandemic.

The Brimbank Community Register, currently supporting 700 people in Brimbank, will also be opened up to more people. People on the register will receive a regular phone call from Council staff who check in on their welfare and can link them to useful support and information.

Brimbank Mayor, Cr Georgina Papafotiou said Council’s top priority was the health and safety of the community and its workforce delivering these essential services.

‘Council’s community care team is delivering support to the most vulnerable people in our community during an unprecedented health emergency. I want to personally thank them for providing this vital care under such difficult circumstances,” Cr Papafotiou said.

She said the Council would continue to look at innovative ways to support those most in need in our community.

‘Our community care team is monitoring what is happening on the ground so they can develop responses to keep supporting the people who need it most.

‘As this emergency evolves our community care service also continues to engage with other relief and support agencies to look at ways to support our community,’ Cr Papafotiou said.

Council will continue to review and monitor the situation based on advice from the relevant health authorities.

Council is also developing an integrated COVID-19 Response Strategy to help combat the spread of the virus and limit impacts on community and businesses.

This whole-of-council strategy focuses on responses across themes such as health and wellbeing, community support, economic development and local business, economic stimulus, community and engagement.
