Clarence Valley Council held its monthly Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday, 26 September at Grafton Council Chambers. One Notice of Motion were considered, followed by a total 33 items, with 20 items called for debate, 13 adopted by consent, with one item discussed in confidential business, in a meeting which lasted four hours 38 minutes.

Nominate for Clarence Valley Citizen of the Year Awards
Do you know a local who deserves recognition for making an extraordinary contribution to the community?
Now is the time to consider nominating an outstanding local for the Clarence Valley Citizen of the Year Awards, to be announced in Yamba on 25 January.

Councillor Debrah Novak has been nominated as the Clarence Valley Citizen of the Year Awards advocate, to promote the event and encourage nominations, be a member of the selection panel, and be involved in the order of service at the ceremony.
Grants support heritage improvements
More than $219,000 in proposed improvements and repairs to heritage buildings have attracted financial support through Clarence Valley Council’s Heritage Grants program.
A total of 15 projects were awarded grants totalling $34,180 for the 2023/2024 program.
The grants support $219,017 of repair, reconstruction and conservation works on heritage buildings in the local area.
Green light for Alice Street levee repairs
A flood-damaged section of levee in Grafton is set to be rehabilitated.
The $866,810 tender for rehabilitation works on the Alice St levee has been awarded to Ledonne Constructions, including rock armouring of the riverbank, revegetation, concrete debris removal and scour protection.
The work is majority funded by a Federal Government grant through Resilience NSW.
Support for young hockey reps
Two local hockey players have received support to compete at a National event, under the Clarence Valley Cultural and Sports Trust fund.
Thomas Beohm and Charlie Rouse were selected to compete at the Hockey NSW Australian U13’s Carnival in Newcastle on 22-29 September 2023.
Grants of $300 each were approved at the Council meeting this week, to assist each applicant with player levies, travel, accommodation, and competition costs.
Councillors Listening Tour
The Waterview and Ramornie communities were the latest stops for the Councillor Listening Tour.
Councillors Clancy, Toms, Day and Johnstone attended the tour sessions at the Mt Ramornie and Southhampton RFS stations.
At Ramornie, two community members raised a range of issues including the two-bin waste service and bulky waste collection; grading of roads; improvement in Council service delivery; and the Jackadgery Community Centre.
At Waterview, eight community members took part and spoke on issues such as the stormwater charge; potential improvements to the cycleway; Munns Creek and local parks; water pressure; hydrants; opening times for toilets at the squash and tennis courts; plans for the Grafton Aquatic Centre; challenges with swimming lessons at the South Grafton pool; the Baryulgil to Tabulam Road; listening tour times and how they’re publicised; and praise of work on Wooli Road.
