Council calls for local singer for Australia Day performance

For many, it is a dream to perform in front of an audience. If the idea of singing centre-stage at the Australia Day Awards ceremony excites you, then this could be your chance.

Kempsey Shire Council is seeking a talented local singer to perform the national anthem, Advance Australia Fair, at the 2021 Australia Day Awards Ceremony in front of a very welcoming crowd.

The selected performer will also get to play a second song of their choice, which represents Australia for them. And best of all, it’s a paid gig.

Kempsey Shire Mayor, Liz Campbell, said she hoped the many talented performers from across the Macleay Valley would take a shot at this very special performance.

“Australia Day is a very emotional day, where we recognise local heroes through the Awards ceremony and welcome our newest citizens, so on that day more than ever the singing of the anthem is such a special moment,” said Cr Campbell.

“We all know how many amazingly talented performers there are in our region, so if you have a friend, a family member or you yourself enjoy singing, I would encourage you to make a short video of your performance and send in your digital audition. It’s going to be the best gig ever because given we all stand for the anthem, it’s a guaranteed standing ovation!”

The Australia Day event will be held at the Slim Dusty Centre on Tuesday 26 January and be celebrated with a welcome breakfast, music and dance performances, welcome to country and the official ceremony.

Nominations are still open for the 2021 Australia Day Awards, recognising outstanding contributions to the local community.
