Disability Action Week is a vibrant celebration of inclusivity and diversity from November 25 to December 2, 2023.

Held in conjunction with Sunshine Coast Council, Disability Action Week is filled with engaging activities designed for individuals with various abilities.

The centrepiece of the week is the Disability Expo from 10am to 12pm on November 28, an inclusive event featuring a special performance by the Sunshine Butterflies. Guests are invited to enjoy a free BBQ while exploring the expo at the Sunshine Butterflies facility in Cooroibah, which showcases a range of services and resources for people with disabilities, and their carers.

Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart said Disability Action Week is an opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate diversity, and showcase the talents of individuals of all abilities.

“As someone who has had a disability for the last 23 years this Disability Action Week is incredibly important and significant to me on a personal level.”

Noosa locals can also take part in Sailability, an introductory session into sailing. This event is at the Noosa Yacht Club on November 29, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. The program introduces participants to the joy of sailing, tailored for all abilities, providing an empowering and liberating experience on the water.

Noosa Leisure Centre is delighted to host Sensory Play and Pampering for Mums on November 30 and December 1, from 10 am to 12 pm. This event offers a relaxing and rejuvenating environment, acknowledging the crucial role mothers play in the lives of those with disabilities.

Other Event Highlights include:

  • Art displays across the Sunshine Coast, showcasing the creative talents of people with disabilities.
  • A photo competition celebrating the theme of inclusivity and resilience.
  • A variety of sporting events, including wheelchair rugby, surfing, and yoga sessions.

All events during Disability Action Week are free, though bookings may be required for some activities. This is a great opportunity for the Noosa community to come together, celebrate diversity, and foster an environment of inclusivity and understanding.
