Council considers plans for future

Townsville City Council’s Governance and Finance Committee has recommended adopting the draft Corporate Plan 2020 – 2024.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said Council has engaged with the community to refine the Corporate Plan.

“The Corporate Plan 2020 – 2024 places a focus on key areas like resilience, water security and safer cities,” Cr Hill said.

“The greatest benefit of the Plan is each Council division is represented – this collaboration ensures everyone is involved in operational plans and quarterly reporting.

“The Corporate Plan will inform Council’s direction for the next five years and feedback indicates that the community agrees with the direction we are taking.”

Acting Governance and Finance Committee Chair Cr Kurt Rehbein said the public feedback has been extremely positive.

“We have received some great feedback from the community and they’ve told us we’re heading in the right direction with the Corporate Plan 2020 – 2024,” Cr Rehbein said.

“The community has been supportive of the direction of our four key goals – that is developing a prosperous city, a city for the people, a clean and green city and a smarter, faster, better council.”

Cr Hill said the recovery from the unprecedented monsoon is a key part of Council’s Corporate Plan.

“Our recovery from the monsoon will be a marathon, not a sprint – it will take time to repair the damaged assets,” Cr Hill said.

“That body of work is included in this five-year plan and we know how important resilience in the community is – this plan links these projects and aligns with our annual budgets.”

The report will go to Full Council for a decision on 28 May.
