Townsville City Council is continuing its commitment to growing the city’s next generation of apprentices and trainees, with applications currently open for people ready to start their careers at the beginning of 2020.
Opportunities are available in the areas of business, IT, libraries, laboratories, horticulture, automotive, electrical, boiler making, and fitting and turning.
Council is committed to working with trainees and apprentices to develop their skills and help them find their place in the workforce.
Acting Mayor Les Walker said being able to provide these job opportunities to locals was essential to retaining local talent.
“Council is working hard to provide chances for job seekers to find employment locally and contribute to our economy,” Cr Walker said.
“Being able to take on new trainees and apprentices is fantastic news for the community. Council is looking to fill these positions across a number of diverse areas.”
Governance and Finance Committee Chair Verena Coombe said last year’s apprentice and trainee intake was the largest it had ever been, and Council wanted to keep the momentum rolling.
“The entire community benefits when workers are given a start at Council,” she said.
“Taking on apprentices and trainees goes a long way to securing the skills we need for our city’s future workforce.”
Applications for apprentice and trainee positions for 2020 are now open.
