Townsville City Council has 52 crews working on the flooding response across the Townsville community.
Council has also deployed more than 80 trucks and 40 pieces of heavy equipment.
More than 400 staff are out completing repairs and tasks to reduce the impact of flooding across our community.
Council crews will be working around the clock over the next five days to do everything possible to minimise the impact of flooding on local residents.
Tasks being undertaken by Council crews include cleaning storm water drains, establishing road closures, fixing rock slides, removing downed trees, sand bagging, signage installation and fixing traffic lights.
Townsville Local Disaster Management Group Chair Mayor Jenny Hill praised Council staff for working closely with emergency services to mitigate the flooding impact on residents.
“There are hundreds of staff members working around the clock and have completed tasks in areas ranging from Toomulla all the way down to Cungulla and out to the west in Majors Creek.
“I can’t thank Council and emergency service crews enough for all their help,” Cr Hill said.
“Our crews all have families and know what it’s like to be a local in North Queensland, that’s why they are all pulling together so strongly.
“We also have the Australian Defence Force out on the ground providing support to our crews in the sandbagging effort, this has been a huge help to all our crews, so I would like to thank them too.
“One of the jobs our crews have been responding to is the Queens Road Pump Station, our staff have been onsite every day since Wednesday to ensure it remains operational.”
