Council endorses Clever and Creative Vision refresh

The refreshed Clever and Creative Vision for Greater Geelong is set to be released for public feedback.

The Community-led 30-year vision, Greater Geelong: A Cleverand Creative Future, was developed in 2016 following a considerable deliberative engagement process which captured the voices of over 16,000 community members.

In line with the Local Government Act 2020, a review of the current community vision was recently undertaken, including community consultation and engagement with key stakeholder groups.

The Vision Refresh Greater Geelong: A Clever and Creative Future document 2nd Edition now includes a number of key focus areas / gaps identified by the community.

These additional areas of focus include diversity and inclusion, emergency services and safety, accessible health and specialist services, mental health and family violence, the local economy and the need for ongoing COVID support. The 2nd Edition document aims at addressing these gaps to ensure that the vision remains relevant and deliverable in the current environment.

City of Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher said the Vision refresh ensured the long-term Clever and Creative vision stayed relevant.

While it’s important that we remain focused on our long-term vision, it’s just as important that we stay agile and responsive to the environment around us.

Councillor Kylie Grzybek, Chair, Statutory and Strategic Planning portfolio said the community provided valuable input to the Vision back in 2016-17.

While I believe the overall vision is still relevant, we look forward to hearing further from the community on the Clever and Creative Vision.

This refresh is a great opportunity to focus on issues such as diversity, mental health and COVID-19 support, to ensure the long-term success of our region.

The draft 2nd Edition vision document will be released for further community consultation
