Council Extends Outdoor Dining Fee Waiver to Support CBD Recovery

Lismore City Council has approved the continuation of its outdoor dining fee waiver for the 2026–2027 financial year, reaffirming its commitment to supporting local businesses and the ongoing activation and recovery of the Lismore CBD.

Lismore City Mayor Steve Krieg said the decision means eligible businesses will continue to benefit from waived outdoor dining fees for another year, helping to reduce operating costs while encouraging greater use of public spaces and a more vibrant city centre.

“Outdoor dining is an important feature of the CBD, contributing significantly to the atmosphere, amenity and economic activity of our city centre while helping to create a welcoming and lively street life for residents and visitors,” Mayor Krieg said.

“By continuing this fee waiver, Council is providing practical support to local businesses while helping to create an attractive and active CBD where people want to spend time, meet friends and support local businesses.”

Mayor Krieg said the extension recognised the importance of maintaining momentum in the city’s recovery and revitalisation efforts.

“Our businesses have shown remarkable resilience, and Council remains committed to supporting initiatives that encourage economic growth and community activity in the heart of our city,” he said.

Council will continue to work with businesses to ensure outdoor trading areas on public land and footpaths remain accessible and compliant with relevant standards. Council will also review outdoor dining fees during the 2026–27 financial year to inform future arrangements.

The review will consider the benefits of outdoor dining, the needs of local businesses and the ongoing activation of the CBD to ensure future arrangements continue to support a thriving city centre.
