Council helps drive vigoro’s future

Townsville vigoro players can keep their eyes focused on the ball knowing their sport has a long-term home at Queens Park.

Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Cr Colleen Doyle said Council has approved a new peppercorn lease.

“This 10 year agreement will extend the sport’s time at Queens Park to 40 years,” Cr Doyle said.

“This lease is an important agreement that once again shows how Council supports local sporting organisations.

“Townsville Ladies Vigoro Association has 80 members and caters to junior and senior players.

“It’s important organisations like the Vigoro Association know they have a long-term home.”

Local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said Queens Park is an ideal location for vigoro.

“Our fields are some of the best in the state and Townsville has hosted both state and regional events at Queens Park,” Cr Greaney said.

“Vigoro is also played in Cairns and Mackay so there are a lot of local rivalries.

“We want to promote a fit and active community and vigoro has been a part of life for a lot of Townsville families for many years.”

Townsville’s vigoro season runs from October to April.
