Council honours local Australians

On Australia Day 2020, 13 local residents who have made outstanding achievements and contributions to our society were awarded with Australian Honours.

To recognise their exceptional contributions, last night all local recipients of the Australia Day 2020 Honours were presented with a Letter Under Seal from Mornington Peninsula Shire Council.

  • Dr Christopher John Clements AM of Mount Eliza: for significant service to international public health through immunisation programs
  • The Late Dr Stephen Vincent Coles AM of Mount Martha: for significant service to veterinary science and to professional bodies
  • Mr Paul Joseph Mercurio AM of Tyabb: for significant service to performing arts, particularly dance
  • Mr George Savvides AM of Mount Martha: for significant service to the community, to charity groups and to business
  • Mr Heathcote McMichael Wright AM of Flinders for: significant service to law and to performing arts
  • Mr Brian Leslie Allen OAM of Rosebud: for service to education in developing countries and to community
  • Mr Brian Stuart Blythe OAM of Portsea: for service to business and to the community
  • Rear Admiral Peter Douglas Briggs OAM of Mornington: for service to the preservation, commemoration and promotion of Australian Naval heritage
  • Mr Rodney Eric Grummitt OAM of Mount Martha: for service to youth through scouts
  • Ms Gillian Ruth Hund OAM of Arthurs Seat: for service to charitable organisations
  • Ms Margaret Knight OAM of Mount Martha: for service to veterans and to community commemorations
  • Mr Nicholas John Roberts OAM of Mount Martha: for service to the community of Mount Martha
  • Mr William Arthur Goodrem OAM formerly of Rye: for service to the communities of the Mornington Peninsula and Southport QLD.

Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Sam Hearn said “the 2020 Australian Honours local recipients have made a remarkable positive impact on our community and to the country. On behalf of Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, we thank them for their contribution.”
