Federation Council recently welcomed many senior leaders to the Federation region as part of the Department of Regional NSW’s Riverina Murray Tour.
The Senior Leaders Tour commenced in Corowa, where guests attended a Welcome Reception Dinner at the Corowa RSL Club.
The Senior Leaders Tour involved NSW Government senior executives representing all cross-agencies except Transport who were a late unavoidable apology, to gain a deeper understanding and have the value of place-based responses to improve outcomes for industry, businesses, and communities to enable a deeper understanding of liveability issues facing the Riverina Murray region during the four day tour.
Federation Council Mayor, Cr Pat Bourke said a major focus of the tour and of specific importance to the Federation Council community and neighbouring Councils including our Victorian Councils, was around cross border impacts.
“This tour allowed the attendees to gain a deeper understanding and have the value of place-based responses to improve outcomes for industry, businesses, and communities to enable a deeper understanding of liveability issues facing the Riverina Murray region,” he said.
“Council’s Director of Development and Environmental Services, Ms Susan Appleyard, was able to deliver an excellent presentation on the challenges facing Federation Council in the areas of infrastructure development, inhibiting growth, and provide Council’s developing Growth Strategy as the way forward, albeit recognising the significant infrastructure spending required over the next 10 to 20 years especially. Public Works NSW and Crown Lands were key interested agencies in this presentation and offered their assistance going forward.”
Mayor Bourke said attendees also appreciated the opportunity to see the Federation region first hand, noting our amazing cropping country and tourism assets.
“Council was also able to note the many challenges facing Council’s road network, and calling in to see first hand what Government funding and public money can do when combined,” he said.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all senior leaders who attended and travelled throughout the Federation Council area, as well as Council staff and my fellow Councillors who provided a wealth of knowledge and details about the opportunities and challenges our region faces.”
