Bayside Council has identified nine locations across the local government area as suitable sites for an ongoing town centre mural program designed to revitalise public spaces, celebrate local identity and enhance the vibrancy of key centres.
The proposed sites have been selected based on their high visibility, location within busy town centres and walkways, and strong potential to create engaging public art experiences for residents and visitors.
The identified sites are on privately owned property, and Council has been working with property owners to obtain approval for murals to be installed on their buildings.
Several owners have already endorsed the initiative, with agreement to use their sites received from Ausgrid, Meriton, Spano Constructions, Sydney Trains, Spot Real Estate and Shopfront Arts Co-op.
The total cost of delivering murals across all nine locations is estimated at approximately $270,000. Council will adopt a staged approach to the program, with works progressing as grant funding and other funding opportunities become available.
The mural program forms part of Council’s commitment to enhancing town centres, supporting public art and creating attractive, welcoming places for the community to enjoy.
Bayside Mayor Edward McDougall said
“This mural program will enhance the appearance of town centres while providing opportunities for local artists to contribute to the character of local neighbourhoods.
“Murals bring colour, creativity and a sense of place to our streets and public spaces. This program will help transform prominent locations across Bayside while celebrating the diversity and identity of our community.”
