Townsville City Council has continued its strong investment in growing Townsville, awarding more than $11 million in tenders last month.
Business Services and Finance chairperson Margie Ryder said more than 80 per cent of the tenders were awarded to local businesses or suppliers.
“Council is committed to supporting the local economy through spending as much as it can with local businesses,” Cr Ryder said.
“Of the more than $11m in tenders awarded in the month of October, around $9m will be spent with Townsville-based businesses or businesses with a commitment to establish an office in Townsville and employ locals.
“We are well on our way to achieving our goal of having 90 per cent of our procurement spending with local businesses within the next five years.
“The procurement team has also regularly engaged with local businesses throughout the year to show them how they can do business with Council.”
Some of the tenders awarded last month include the supply and delivery of motor vehicles, light plant and equipment, a new audio console system for the Civic Theatre and sweeping and cleaning services for streets and footpaths.
Councillors also noted the release of five tenders for November at yesterday’s ordinary meeting of council.
They include guardrail and road rehabilitation work at Horseshoe Bay; the construction packages one and two for the Ross River Dam to Douglas Water Treatment Plant Pipeline Duplication project and unmanned aerial vehicle surveying services.
