Council launches Christmas Giving trees appeal

Griffith City Council has launched a facility-wide Christmas Giving Tree Appeal.

The appeal aims to create a brighter Christmas for locals experiencing hardship or crisis, through the delivery of gifts.

LED Christmas trees will be placed in the foyer of Council’s administration building, Griffith City Library, Griffith Regional Theatre and the Tourism Hub.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran is encouraging the community to share in the spirit of Christmas and donate to the less fortunate.

“For a lot of people Christmas can be an especially tough time,” he said.

“Even the smallest gift can help make the season a little better.”

Donations can be made from Monday 13 November until Friday 15 December 2023.

The gifts will be donated to Griffith Hampers of Hope who will distribute them to families in need the week before Christmas.

Residents can also donate to two other Hampers of Hope Programs. The Food and Toy run will be held on the first Saturday 2 December 2023. Food and toys will be collected and delivered to a number of charities and groups in the area.

Santa for a Senior asks people to donate gifts for older citizens such as clients of Meals on Wheels and residents of nursing homes to be delivered the week of Christmas.
