Central Goldfields Shire Council is launching its community engagement for the 2019-2024 Waste Management Policy.

In preparation for the strategy, Council is engaging a number of organisations and community groups to commence conversations around waste and waste services.

The Waste Management Strategy will outline how waste to landfill can be reduced and design and deliver behaviour change to reduce waste to landfill, increase recycling and expand organic waste recovery.

By engaging with the community, Councils aims to create local solutions to waste management, lead waste behaviour change and how to effectively inform residents to use the waste management service.

The community will be able to provide feedback via surveys, available at www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/haveyoursay, until 23 July 2019, one-on-one consultations with selected stakeholders and by providing written feedback to Council.

Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said reducing waste to landfill should be a conversation every household has.

“Every household creates some kind of waste whether it be hard waste such as furniture, recycling or green waste.

“In our current environmental atmosphere, how we – as a Council and as residents – can reduce our waste to landfill should be a high priority.”
