The City of Greater Geelong Council noted the Our Community Plan Quarterly Report for June 2023 at this week’s September council meeting.
Our Community Plan 2021-2025 is Council’s key strategic document which identifies the outcomes and priorities Council will focus its efforts on over the four years, to ensure the social, economic and environmental sustainability of our region.
This quarterly report provides progress against the one-year actions for the period 1 March 2023 to 30 June 2023.
This is the final quarterly report for the Our Community Plan 2021-2025 – Annual Action Plan 2022–2023 and it reports on 64 actions.
By the end of June 2023, 46 of the 64 actions were ‘complete’, one action was ‘on track’, two actions were ‘off-track’, five actions were ‘on hold’, one action was ‘not started’ and four actions were ‘ongoing’.
It was determined that five actions will not proceed.
Among the 46 actions completed:
- Adoption of the Southeast Bellarine Coast (4W-Collendina) Coastal and Marine Management Plan 2022–2032
- Endorsement of the draft Municipal Early Years Plan 2022–2025, which is now being shared with key stakeholders across the community
- Development of an annual action plan for the Vital Communities project
- Feasibility study which recommends that the City investigate opportunities for a youth hub in the central business district
- Development of an annual Multicultural Action Plan
- Expansion of a drop-in feeding support service with the implementation of a newly established service in Barwon Heads. Development of a community campaign to raise awareness of the region’s climate risks, impacts and responses with the City hosting a Net Zero Forum. This was an event to share knowledge and collaborate on efforts to work towards the City’s adopted Net Zero by 2035 community target and
- Implementation of all Sparrovale Master Plan Phase 1 projects, meaning the focus now shifts to Phase 2.
The Our Community Plan 2021-2025 quarterly reports are prepared in consultation with Managers, Coordinators and Officers from across the organisation.
Our Community Plan 2021-2025 recognises the importance of social equity, access and inclusion as a key priority area contributing to the long-term sustainability of our community.
The City’s activities are guided by the Our Community Plan 2021-2025 which was adopted in accordance with the Local Government Act 2020 and implementation is monitored via the quarterly and annual reports.

The plans form a key pillar of the City’s responsibilities across the Geelong community.
This report aligns with Our Community Plan 2021-25 strategic priority, along with the Community led 30-year Vision, “Greater Geelong: A Clever and Creative Future” community aspiration.
It’s pleasing to note the 46 completed actions, while at the same time acknowledging the very good reasons why some actions are on-hold, others are not quite complete, and that with changing priorities, some will not proceed.

From the adoption of our Southeast Bellarine Coast Coastal and Marine Management Plan for the next decade to the development of an annual Multicultural Action Plan, as well as the LED street lighting upgrade program, the City is striving to undertake many initiatives to improve equity, access, and inclusion for all.
