Council picks up silver at Tourism Awards

Bass Coast Shire Council has won two silver awards at the RACV Victorian Tourism Awards gala ceremony, held in Melbourne last Thursday night.

Council received the awards in the Local Government Award for Tourism category and in the Visitor Services category.

The annual awards are presented by the Victorian Tourism Industry Council and celebrate outstanding contributions to the tourism industry from organisations and suppliers across the state.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari said the success at the Awards recognises Council’s ongoing commitment to professional excellence within the tourism industry, as well as high quality visitor experiences.

“Being acknowledged as one of the best in your field is a tremendous accomplishment and one that you can take much pride in,” Cr Tessari said.

“The Awards give us a chance to not only reflect on our tourism achievements within the past year, but inspires us to continue to be innovative and focus on continuous improvement in the tourism sector.”

Council has performed strongly in the Awards over the past nine years, winning bronze for the Local Government Award for Tourism in 2016, and Gold in 2017 and 2018.

It was a fantastic year for Bass Coast businesses as well, with Inverloch Big 4 winning gold for the third year running, which comes with entry into the Hall of Fame, while Harman Wines was named a finalist in their first year entering the awards.

“It is fantastic to see some of our incredible Bass Coast businesses acknowledged in a range of categories that showcase the diversity of tourism experiences in our region – including Bass Coast’s 2019 Business of the Year Harman Wines,” Cr Tessari said.

“The calibre of entrants from Bass Coast is outstanding, illustrating the professionalism of our local industry and their commitment to delivering the best visitor experiences.”
