Council provides boost to sporting groups

Three sporting organisations are set to benefit financially as part of Council's Sports Tourism Event Grant Program.

Three sporting organisations are set to benefit financially as part of Toowoomba Regional Council’s (TRC) Sports Tourism Event Grant Program.

Through this program, TRC Environment and Community Committee Chair Cr James O’Shea said the Toowoomba Hockey Association, Softball Queensland and the Toowoomba Basketball Association had all been successful in receiving funding.

“The Sports Tourism Event Grant Program is designed to support projects which develop and deliver successful sports tourism events for the Toowoomba Region,” he said.

“Council believes all three of these applications will make a positive contribution to the Region’s economy and as such were approved for funding.

“Additionally, all three events support women in sport which is extra pleasing to see.

“Unlike Council’s other Community Grant programs, this stream of funding is available at any point in the year to the community until the full allocation has been exhausted.

“With the approval of these three applications today, Council has now supported 12 events in total through the Sports Tourism Event Grant Program to the value of $65,100 in the 2022/23 financial year.”

The successful applicants include:

  • $10,000 to Toowoomba Hockey Association to assist with the running of the 2023 Hockey Queensland Women’s Masters State Championships
  • $4,100 to Softball Queensland Inc. to assist with the running of the 2023 Murri Women’s Softball Tournament
  • $10,000 to Toowoomba Basketball Association Inc. to assist with the running of the 2023 U14 Girls State Championships.
