Council’s entities continue to shine

Empire Theatre

Toowoomba Regional Council’s (TRC) wholly owned entities have produced strong results for the 2023 January to March quarter, underpinning the value they provide to the community.

TRC Finance and Business Strategy Committee Portfolio Leader Cr Kerry Shine said Council had initiated these entities to provide a service to the community and to grow the Region’s economy over time.

“The Empire Theatre continues to be a showpiece for our Region, hosting 48 events from January to March alone,” Cr Shine said.

“From these events, it’s estimated the patrons spent about $3.5 million in the local community, outside of the ticket sales.

“This is a great result which shows how important the theatre is for supporting our local businesses.

“In the same time period, the Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise held six corporate events with 813 attendees and saw an increase of 29 new members, taking the overall number of members to 536.

“This included the inaugural 2023 event at Parliament House in Brisbane in February which was well-attended and helps ensure our drive for increased economic development in our Region.”

Toowoomba Regional Council controls the activities of the following wholly owned entities:

  • Empire Theatres Pty Ltd
  • Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise Pty Ltd
  • Empire Theatres Foundation Ltd (created on 15 January 2023).
