Residents are encouraged to tackle spring clean-ups this October, with Griffith City Council bringing back its popular Dump for Free Month, making it easier to dispose of unwanted household waste at no cost.
From Thursday 1 October to Saturday 31 October 2026, residents can dispose of general domestic waste free of charge at the Griffith and Yenda waste facilities, helping keep homes, sheds and yards tidy while supporting a cleaner environment.
Throughout October, the Tharbogang Waste Management Centre will be open daily from 8am to 5pm, while the Yenda Waste Facility will return to extended operating hours, opening every Sunday from 8am to 5pm.
Mayor Doug Curran said the program delivered practical benefits for residents while helping maintain community pride.
“Dump for Free Month gives residents the opportunity to clear out unwanted household waste without the added cost, while helping keep our neighbourhoods clean and attractive,” Mayor Curran said.
“It is a simple initiative that makes a real difference, encouraging responsible waste disposal and supporting a cleaner, more liveable Griffith for everyone.”
Each household is entitled to dispose of up to two standard loads during October, with a maximum of four car tyres per load. A standard load includes a single car, ute, or car and trailer combination. Commercial or agricultural tyres will not be accepted.
Hazardous materials, including asbestos, are not accepted as part of Dump for Free Month. Residents are encouraged to utilise the free Community Recycling Centre located at the Tharbogang Waste Management Centre, which accepts a range of household problem wastes including paint, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, oils, batteries, smoke detectors, fluorescent globes and tubes.
