Blue Mountains City Council invites the community to provide final feedback on the designs for the new Youth Play Space at Buttenshaw Park in Springwood.
The Council is committed to addressing the needs of young people in our City and improving an improved quality of life for all.
The new Youth Play Space will include equipment such as:
an accessible double flying fox
- a giant nest swing
- a ping pong table
- a rope climbing and hangout unit
- a rock climbing wall, and
- a pump track for bike and scooter riders.
It will also include many other dynamic features which will improve the accessibility, functionality and aesthetics of the space.
Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “Ensuring that Blue Mountains youth have safe, inclusive and engaging spaces to connect in, is essential for developing positive communities. Council’s Resilience Report showed that physical activity drops significantly as teenagers’ age, so this is a great opportunity to encourage our young people to get outside, get active and feel part of the community.”
A drop-in information session on the final designs for the Youth Play Space with Pump Track, as well as the draft Plan of Management and draft Masterplan for Buttenshaw Park, will be held in the Group Fitness Room at Springwood Aquatic Centre on Sunday 16 May from 1 to 5pm.
All of these documents will provide a blueprint for how this park will be used and managed in the future and Council encourages all members of the community to participate in the consultation process, especially those who currently use the space.

Buttenshaw Park is one of our four district parks receiving an upgrade thanks to the Western Sydney City Deal Liveability Program. This program is part of the Western Sydney City Deal, which is a 20 year-agreement between Australian and NSW governments and the eight local Councils of the Western Parkland City.
