Council supporting community groups: Latrobe City Council

More than $300,000 will be distributed to local sporting, cultural and community groups in round two of Latrobe City Council’s Community Grants and Sponsorships Program.

Councillors endorsed a list of 80 grant and sponsorship recipients at last night’s regular meeting worth a total of $304,750.53.

The funding will be distributed for Minor Capital Works, Minor Equipment, Community Wellbeing, Community Events Minor, Community Events Significant and Community Sponsorship Major.

Funding was recommended for a wide range of events including the Australian National Bottles and Collectables Exhibition and Fair, a new food truck festival for Yinnar and the Nigerian Society of Victoria Cultural Day Celebration 2022.

Several community wellbeing programs also received funding support including Berry Street Victoria’s Safer Driving for young people program and bus trips for the Morwell Senior Citizens Club to increase social connectivity.

A sum of $140,000 was allocated for minor capital works projects across a range of community and sporting organisations.

Council will provide $20,000 as a major sponsor for the Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod.

A full list of round two recipients can be found on the Latrobe City Council website.

As stated by Latrobe City Mayor Kellie O’Callaghan

“The Community Grants and Sponsorships Program is an important avenue for council to support the needs of our diverse community, cultural and sporting organisations as they grow and thrive.

“Council is delighted to have allocated more than three hundred thousand dollars in this round of funding as part of our annual budget of just over half a million dollars.

“This funding is a significant boost for a range of groups whether it be as minor as replacing outdated equipment or as major as helping a club relocate.

“I congratulate all our latest recipients and encourage community groups to continue to apply for funding in future rounds of the program.”
