Council to consider on-leash rules at Highton Pipe Track

Community members will be called on to share their thoughts on whether the Highton Pipe Track behind Tim Hill Reserve, Wandana Heights should become an off-leash area for dogs.

The Kardinia Ward is home to more than 8,000 registered dogs.

Recently, signs asking dog owners to keep their pets on a leash were put up along the Highton Pipe Track. Anecdotally, public feedback has been mixed on the subject, with some residents agreeing with the existing on-lead controls and others asking that this be an off-leash area.

Council has requested that the CEO report back in December, considering community consultation, the Dog Controls in Public Places Policy and the City’s agreement with Barwon Water for the maintenance of the shared path.

The report follows a successful Notice of Motion from Cr Ron Nelson.

The location of a fenced dog park in the Kardinia Ward was this month announced as 162 Barrabool Road in Belmont, beneath the Settlement Road bridge.
