Council To Host Seniors Festival In Shellharbour

Shellharbour City Council is inviting residents to reconnect and celebrate with a series of events marking the NSW Seniors Festival this month.

The fun, senior-friendly festival will be held across Shellharbour City from Monday 11 March to Sunday 24 March.

The festival features workshops, activities, exhibitions, community information sessions and more.

There will also be sessions about living with chronic pain, stability and fall prevention, the Seniors Rights Service (SRS), lessons on using mobile phone applications and history tours.

Physical activities include bush dancing at the Wongawilli Community Hall, yoga, tai chi and line dancing at Oak Flats Community Hall, free aqua aerobics at Albion Park and Oak Flats pools and pickle ball at Shellharbour City Stadium.

Other workshops include creativity sessions with macramé, clay sculpting and tie dying, film and comedy sessions, bus tours, open days and games.

Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer said the popular event was a fun way to share and enjoy age-friendly activities in the Illawarra region.

“The NSW Seniors Festival is a wonderful way to celebrate the seniors in Shellharbour and share resources, fun and bring back a sense of community in our area,” Mayor Homer said.

“Our seniors make a significant contribution to our community and this festival gives them the opportunity to connect, learn new skills and find new passions.

“Having fun is important at every age, which I believe enhances all levels of health, and in particular mental health during these extraordinary times.

“I encourage our local seniors to attend the sessions and workshops and enjoy themselves.”

Registration is essential for all activities.
