Council to Try a Change to Community Grants Program

Council’s popular Community Grants Program is to be administered over three funding rounds in 2019-20, instead of quarterly.

Mayor Anne Baker said Council’s Community Grants Program supported community events and activities which promoted social cohesion.

“Building and supporting the communities of the Isaac is a key outcome of Council’s regional vision and Strategic Community Plan,” she said.

“Initiatives such our Community Grants Program allow Council to provide assistance to local organisations which contribute to the social, sporting and cultural fabric of the Isaac region.

“Many of these organisations rely on volunteers and ongoing community support to deliver events and activities for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.

“They are another example of the pure people power which drives our local communities and make the Isaac such a great place to live.”

Mayor Baker said moving to a three-round process would help to streamline the grants process and align it with other funding programs available to community organisations in the region.

“This change will provide greater lead times for organisations to prepare their grant submissions, particularly over Christmas/New Year when many groups go into recess for an extended period,” she said.

“A number of our community organisations also source co-contributions for their projects and events from a number of different programs, so this change is likely to simplify this process for all concerned.”
