Council has proceeded with a six-month trial of a temporary off-leash dog park at Progress Park Narwee. The trial will run from September 2026 to March 2027.
This trial is proceeding after Council received feedback during initial community consultation. Based on this feedback, Council has implemented the following:
Playground equipment has been removed to make the fenced area safe for dogs.
Existing fencing and seating have been maintained.
A waste bin and dog waste bag dispenser have been installed.
Signage has been installed outlining the trial, operating hours and expected behaviour.
Alternative play equipment facilities are available at Narwee Park, a 5-minute walk from Progress Park.
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, “Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback during the initial consultation”.
“As this trial runs, I encourage the community to share their feedback again. This will help us understand your experiences and thoughts as we trial this temporary off-leash area.”
“This trial is an opportunity to see how an off-leash space can work in the area. Community feedback will be essential in helping Council evaluate its impact and future options for Progress Park.”
Once the trial ends, Council will review community feedback, operational considerations and the overall performance of the trial. The findings will be reported back to Council who will determine the future proceedings of the off-leash area.
