Monash Council welcomes the detail released by the Victorian Government about the Suburban Rail Loop project, including a timeline for tunnelling work and the precinct planning phase.
Monash Mayor, Cr Tina Samardzija, looks forward to the next stages of planning for the project and, with three stations and four precincts in Monash, continued conversations between Council and the Suburban Rail Loop Authority.
“The Suburban Rail Loop will be a gamechanger for Monash’s connection to the rest of Melbourne, and this transformational project has the support of Council,” Cr Samardzija said.
“Council will review the Precinct Discussion Paper and believes this is the starting point for the next stage of detailed conversations between us, our community, and the Suburban Rail Loop Authority in the leadup to more detailed consultation on the precincts around the new stations in Monash.
“We’re encouraged that the first section of the Precinct Discussion Paper is titled Towards a Shared Vision as local input on these decisions is crucial. We look forward to working with the Suburban Rail Loop Authority to ensure this commitment is delivered.
“Council has previously expressed reservations on the precinct planning process, including planning powers and that development is focussed in appropriate areas within the 1.6km radius, so we welcome engagement on these important aspects.
“We encourage all Monash community members to take part in the Victorian Government’s consultation. Council will publish our response to the Precinct Discussion Paper following its endorsement by Councillors and submission,” said Cr Samardzija.
