Council welcomes location for Phillip Island Community Hospital

Bass Coast Shire Council welcomed this week’s announcement from the State Government that it has identified a site to purchase next to the Phillip Island Health Hub to develop into a community hospital.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari said he was excited to see this important community project getting underway.

“This is a great outcome which means the Phillip Island community will have improved access to health services without the stress and cost of having to travel long distances,” Cr Tessari.

The site that has been identified is on Church Street, Cowes, next to the Phillip Island Health Hub. The Phillip Island Community and Learning Centre (PICAL) is currently located on this site.

Cr Tessari also acknowledged that this announcement will mean the relocation of PICAL, but emphasised that Council is committed to working with the PICAL committee to find a new home for the Centre.

“PICAL provides such valuable services to the community, whether it be recreational, educational, and referral assistance to welfare services, the team at PICAL do a great job. We’ll be working with PICAL to ensure that a new home and improved facilities are realised as soon as possible. It will be a great outcome for the Phillip Island community.”

“We look forward to the future where Phillip Island will have a community hospital and community centre.” Cr Tessari said.
