At 10.30am, conversations were already in full swing between Councillors and two community members on the topics of development and grey nomads.
This month’s Councillor Catch Up was held out the front of Smokey Dan’s in Tomakin from 10.30am – 12.30pm. Councillors at the Tomakin catchup: David Grace, Tanya Dannock, Alison Worthington, Mathew Hatcher and Tubby Harrison.
One community member told Councillors there should be less “higgledy-piggledy” high-rise developments in low-lying suburban areas. Instead, he felt high-rise developments could be better placed in environmentally adequate greenfield locations with public reserves and community facilities included.
Another community member wanted to see Moruya Showground become an overnight accommodation option for “grey nomads” and caravan travellers.
Later in the catch up, two members from Tomakin Community Association presented their results from a beach access survey they conducted last year.
They gave each councillor a copy of the 47-page presentation. Councillors were very impressed and spoke with the association members about their main concerns regarding more people visiting Tomakin because of the Rosedale development.
The association members said there was a need for improved beach access, including ramps and parking, toilet facilities at Barlings Beach, a basketball hoop at the park and a footpath linking residents to the IGA.
