The City of Stonnington has elected its new Mayor for the 2023-2024 mayoral year.
East Ward Councillor Joe Gianfriddo was elected Mayor at a special Council meeting held at the Malvern Town Hall on Tuesday, 21 November.
Cr Gianfriddo said that the Stonnington community and customers will be the focus of his leadership term.
“Stonnington is a wonderful kaleidoscope of people, places, architecture, connection, nature and colour,” he said.
“I will champion our community and customers and ensure they are at the forefront of every decision and action we do.
“The Council must be champions of service, champions of responsiveness, champions of value and champions of change.”
Cr Gianfriddo has been a Stonnington Councillor since January 2023, entering halfway through the term.
Cr Gianfriddo also paid tribute to the outgoing Mayor, Cr Jami Klisaris, who did not recontest for the mayoral position.
South Ward Councillor Mike Scott was elected to the position of Deputy Mayor.
“I look forward to working with the Mayor and supporting our community across the board,” Cr Scott said.
