Kiama Council has adopted a Strategic Improvement Plan, with councillors endorsing the Plan at last night’s council meeting.

The Strategic Improvement Plan (SIP), developed by the councillors, CEO Jane Stroud and Council’s Finance Advisory Committee, addresses short and long term challenges.

An immediate challenge is the need to increase Council’s annual cash flow by more than $20 million.

The SIP proposes measures to increase revenue from Blue Haven Illawarra and Kiama Coast Holiday Parks, as well as Council’s significant land holdings.

A long term challenge is increasing Council’s ability to meet the current and future challenges facing local government across Australia.

The SIP outlines a three-year transformation project covering governance, administration, structure, capability, culture and performance.

The Strategic Improvement Plan is available online:

Councillors have also endorsed applying for the Additional Special Rate Variation (ASRV) being offered by the NSW Government to local councils.

The ASRV is available to councils to ensure the continued operation of facilities and delivery of services in 2022/23.

It follows the significant costs to on councils of recent disasters, including bushfires and floods, as well as lost revenue from Covid.

Council will seek an ASRV of 2.5 per cent for 2022/23, which will provide an additional $174,451 in income from rates.
