Councillors select preferred applicant for Council’s new CEO

Business people shaking hands

Councillors met this morning in Cooma for an Extraordinary Council Meeting to select their preferred applicant for Chief Executive Officer (CEO), with current CEO Peter Bascomb’s contract ending in November 2023.

The elected representatives and specialists from McArthur Recruitment – the firm contracted to conduct the recruitment process – discussed shortlisted candidates in a confidential session this morning.

A preferred candidate has been selected. Due to confidentiality concerns with prospective candidates, the new CEO cannot be announced until the preferred applicant accepts Council’s contract offer.

Once this has occurred, Council will share the exciting news with our community sometime next week.

Mayor Narelle Davis was joined by many of her fellow Councillors at the April Ordinary Council Meeting in commending Mr Bascomb’s exceptional leadership during his tenure with the organisation.

Mr Bascomb led Council through amalgamation, the Black Summer bushfires, COVID-19, and oversaw significant transformation and improvement to Council’s operations and financial performance.

Council extends its deep gratitude to Mr Bascomb for his service and leadership, and wishes him well for the future.
